GERMAN: “Nie wieder New York” auf Amazon und im Apple iBook Store!

**** UPDATE ****

An meine Leser!

BatteryScore

Be very careful when you think about developing a great app idea!

batteryscore will not come back.

The part of the story I really don’t like at all is the way Apple handled this.

After one year on the App Store with an increasing number of downloads and users – more than 40.000 – Apple just decided to reject a small app update.

We did not change much. We had some user complaints and we tried to improve the user interface and some app messages.
Nevertheless Apple rejected the app every time. I even had a phone call with them and they gave me “hints” what to do with the app.
In fact we tried to follow those hints but nevertheless they rejected the app again and again.

We didn’t change its main functionality but they just rejected it every time according to another paragraph of the developer guidelines which we supposedly did not follow.

At the end I’ve spent more than $20,000 (twenty thousand dollars) to develop this app and earned only a small percentage back – but I thought the large user base would help me to earn some money sooner or later.
Of course this will not happen when Apple is just pulling it out for no good reason. The very same app got accepted 12 months ago.

Don’t forget the fact if you are not able to develop an app on your own, which means that you are not a programmer, then you have to ask and for sure pay for every update.
Updates are not only needed when you want to add features. Updates are necessary for bugs or and also – that’s the worst part – every time when Apple is changing something in their OS.
For iOS updates you have to update your app, paying your developer but will not get any new features.
At the end you are paying and paying but you need to sell many apps to earn enough so that this could be profitable.
We had a very nice developer who did many things without charging us too much but that’s not normal.

My advice: Do not follow your app dream if you are not able to program it on your own. It will cost you money and a lot of time. Finally you will earn nothing.

And BatteryScore: Why Apple does not like apps which are for testing their batteries is another story – but the answer is most probably pretty obvious…

batteryscore is a well-designed Battery Benchmark App for iPhone. Really easy to use and reliable.

Just test your iPhone battery and compare it to others. Really quick and easy!

You may have heard about robots stealing our jobs in the near future or about female robots that will please us whenever we need it.
Others say that they will even start a devastating war against humanity in the near future.
Some even say that all this has already begun.

Robert Redford, Sibylle Szaggars Redford and me…

Karsten Staiger asked me to help him shooting “The Way of the Rain” (Created by Sibylle Szaggars Redford) at Sundance Film Festival.

A truly amazing experience capturing such a piece of art especially when the subject is touching you deep inside.

“What do you see when you look up at the sky at night at the blazing stars against the midnight heavens?”

THE WAY OF THE RAIN
by environmental artist Sibylle Szaggars Redford

The way of the rain is an homage to our planet Earth and its universal elements. We invite you to a mystical journey filled with music, dance, words, color and film. This performance piece is a creation of pure abstract content and as artists we join the many others who see the joy of moving beyond borders to the unknown and unexplored… the eternal world of music, color, dance, space, light and texture.

Isaac Peña for YOGA DOWNLOAD

Recently we have finished another interesting project in New York City for yogadownload.com.

We filmed Isaac Peña and his wife Anne Paolini performing two different Yoga classes for 20 minutes and another for 60 minutes.

A really interesting experience to watch what bodies are capable of.
I thought I should start Yoga afterwards but I’m not sure if it could help me with my favorite sport: Tennis.

The space in the exercise room was very limited and we also setup the lights. The place was not really perfect because the camera was a bit too close for some scenes.
Finally I captured in 1080p and edited in 720p. I zoomed in a bit in FCPX by changing the video size up to 120%. Then I zoomed out for some scenes to 100%.
It was not the best solution but the only one because there was a pole and a door disturbing the video frame.

Nevertheless the customer was pleased with the result.

Next time I will choose the location for the shoot…

Fitch Foundation Conference

Recently we finished a bunch of videos for the Fitch Foundation in New York City.

Seri Worden (Director Fitch Foundation) organized a brilliant event about “The Accidental Preservationist: Artists, Artisans, Outliers and the Future of Historic Preservation”.

When you film such a conference you have to deal with many larger and smaller challenges but this one was especially nice because it was very well organized.
Also the speeches and presentations were very interesting.

For people not involved in such matter the subject of the conference may sound kind of boring but it really wasn’t.
Please have a look at the keynote speech from Justin Davidson, Preservation as Agent of Radical Change.

We also really liked the location, the history-charged Roosevelt House in New York City.

Please find all videos here.

THEIA Bridal Show Fall 2015 Collection

THEIA Bridal Show Fall 2015 Collection

We finished this video today:

The THEIA Fall 2015 collection is inspired by Mongolia’s frozen Tundra, the eternally snowcapped Altai mountains, with ice blue rivers flowing through its glaciers. The vast Bayangovi plains roamed by native nomads herding their flocks of sheep and prized cashmere goats, inspiring a collection of white chiffon snow drifts, tulle white outs, ice blue fil coupe jacquards, crystals glistening like ice in the sun, heavy Venice winter lace, hand woven ribbon tweeds, luxurious cozy cashmeres, and curly lamb wraps to keep out the bitter cold.
This season we collaborated with Naadam, the only socially responsible cashmere company, who work exclusively in Mongolia to source the world’s finest cashmere. Melding two cultures, we took the iconic stitches of an Irish Fisherman’s sweater to create a unique bridal gown, knit by nomads in Mongolia.
